Multitalented sports star Sophie Devine is vice-captain of the New Zealand White Ferns, a team for which she was first selected way back when she was in high school. Devine started playing organised cricket when she was five and was first selected to play for Wellington Blaze when she was just 14. When she selected for the White Ferns at 17 in 2006 she was one of the youngest ever members of the side.  The experienced allrounder provides grit and back-up in the White Ferns' batting order, and while she suffered a bad run of injuries in 2013 including ankle surgery for a torn peroneal tendon, a stress fracture in her shin, and two broken toes in a short space of time, she has returned to her best. Devine has also represented New Zealand in hockey as a member of the Black Sticks hockey team, and has proven to be a valuable member of the SA Scorpions' line-up.  In 2015, Devome broke the international record (men and women) for the fastest T20 half century (from 18 balls), and fastest 70 runs (from 22 balls) in the first match against india.
